Agricultural Storage Building Structural Design – Uxbridge
This project involved the structural design of an agricultural storage building in Uxbridge, Ontario, including foundation walls, footings, tall wood wall framing, headers, wind posts, and engineered connections.
Parsways prepared a revised permit structural package based on OBC 2024, NBC 2020 Part 4, Uxbridge climatic loads, and agricultural building design criteria.

1. The Challenge
The project required structural design for a large storage building with long wall spans, tall gable framing, overhead door openings, and mixed foundation wall conditions.
Tall Wall and Wind Design:
The gable walls required engineered stud framing and wind post continuity to satisfy lateral wind deflection requirements.
Large Opening Support:
Overhead doors, sliding doors, personnel doors, and windows required coordinated LVL headers, jack studs, king studs, and hold-down anchorage.
Foundation and Load Transfer:
The foundation design had to coordinate 12 inch brick ledge walls, 8 inch standard walls, continuous strip footings, rebar, and soil bearing assumptions.
2. The Engineering Solution
Parsways completed a structural design package for the agricultural storage building using the stated Ontario code criteria, loading data, and material specifications.
a. Foundation Design:
The design defined reinforced concrete foundation walls, continuous strip footings, frost depth, concrete strength, air entrainment, rebar, anchor bolts, and pier footings.
b. Wall and Opening Framing:
The package specified SPF walls, TimberStrand LSL tall gable studs, Microllam LVL headers, wind posts, and jack studs.
c. Connection and Roof Coordination:
Structural notes addressed Simpson connectors, HTT5 hold-downs, angles, hurricane ties, timber braces, heavy timber roof elements, and roof trusses by others.
3. The Outcome
The project resulted in a revised permit-ready structural package for an agricultural storage building, with clear foundation, wall framing, opening, wind-resistance, and connection requirements to support construction coordination and OBC-compliant structural design in Ontario.
