Diesel Tank Installations – Structural Inspection & Sign-Off Review, Toronto
This project involved independent structural site review and sign-off services for the installation of diesel fuel storage tanks at the TTC Arrow Road Garage in Toronto. Parsways was retained to verify the structural conformance of tank installations, anchorage systems, access platforms, and associated mechanical supports against approved shop drawings and applicable code requirements.
Location: Toronto, Ontario
Completion: 2024–2025
Sector: Transportation / Industrial Infrastructure

1. The Challenge
The project included several technical considerations typical of active industrial facilities:
Multi-Phase Installation:
The diesel tank system was installed in multiple phases—including tank saddles, anchorage, access platforms, and mechanical supports—each requiring independent verification
and sign-off.
Anchorage Accuracy:
Critical elements required confirmation of anchor type, embedment, spacing, alignment, and workmanship relative to
the approved shop drawings.
Operational Constraints:
All reviews were performed within an active TTC facility, requiring coordination with site operations and verification of both temporary and permanent systems.
2. The Engineering Solution
Parsways provided independent structural site review and sign-off services focused on installation conformance and code compliance.
a. Tank Anchorage & Supports
Verification of tank saddle supports, anchor bolts, and concrete pads, including embedment, spacing, alignment, and workmanship, against the approved shop drawings.
b. Access Platforms & Mechanical Supports
Review of steel catwalk platforms, temporary access systems, and mechanical pipe supports to confirm structural adequacy, connection detailing, and safe load paths.
c. Structural Sign-Off
Engineer-sealed conformance letters issued confirming general compliance with OBC Part 4, CSA S16, and applicable manufacturer requirements.
3. The Outcome
Documented structural sign-off confirmed that the diesel tank installations and associated support systems were in general conformance with the approved drawings and applicable codes. The reviews verified proper anchorage, load transfer, and installation quality, supporting safe operation and long-term service performance at the facility.
