Ecology Unit Roof Support Assembly - Brampton
A structural support assembly was designed for a rooftop ecology unit installed over an existing CLT roof structure.
The engineering scope covered the support framing and associated structural connections required for the unit.
Location: Brampton, Ontario
Completion: September 2026
Sector: Commercial

1. The Challenge
The project required a dedicated structural framing system to transfer the ecology unit loads to support locations on the existing roof.
Existing Roof Interface:
The assembly had to connect to the existing CLT roof panel while accounting for the field-verified roof build-up.
Structural Reactions:
Support reactions from the assembly needed to be established for coordination with the existing building structure.
Exterior Exposure:
The rooftop installation required structural connections suitable for exterior exposure and corrosion resistance.
2. The Engineering Solution
Parsways designed a strut-framing support assembly consisting of beams, posts, bases, fittings, and structural connections.
a) Support Framing:
The framing arrangement established longitudinal and transverse support beneath the rooftop ecology unit.
b) Roof Connections:
Post bases and fastening details were designed to transfer loads directly to the existing CLT roof panel.
c) Material Protection:
Exterior steel components, fasteners, and hardware were specified with galvanized or equivalent corrosion-resistant protection.
3. The Outcome
A coordinated Ontario structural engineering solution was developed for the rooftop equipment support, defining the framing system, connections, and design reactions for permit and installation coordination in accordance with the Ontario Building Code.
