Fall Fair Announcers Booth Structural Design - Uxbridge
Structural design was completed for a replacement announcers booth intended for event operations and staff use.
The open-frame structure included an elevated deck, stair, roof, foundations, and lateral bracing.
Location: Uxbridge, Ontario
Completion: July 2026
Sector: Entertainment and Recreation

1. The Challenge
A new elevated announcers booth was required to replace the existing structure at the same site.
Existing Footprint:
The structure had to occupy the established location while forming an independent support system.
Integrated Elevated Structure:
The deck, stair, roof, posts, beams, and foundations required a coordinated structural load path.
Defined Use and Exposure:
The design had to address open-frame wind behaviour and occupancy limited to event operations and staff.
2. The Engineering Solution
A pressure-treated wood framing and concrete foundation system was developed for the structure.
a) Foundations and Support:
Concrete piers, post bases, timber posts, and built-up beams were coordinated to transfer loads.
b) Deck, Stair, and Roof Framing:
Joists, stair supports, rafters, ridge members, guards, handrails, gates, and blocking were incorporated.
c) Lateral Stability and Connections:
Knee braces, post caps, joist hangers, and galvanized fasteners provided stability and structural continuity.
3. The Outcome
The design established a coordinated permit-stage structural solution for event operations and staff use, consistent with Ontario Building Code 2024 requirements and stated open-frame limitations.
