Garage Structural Steel Design - Uxbridge
Parsways completed the Part 4 structural steel design for a garage, focusing on the steel beam, steel posts, and associated connections.
The structural scope was coordinated with loft floor framing, while foundations, roof trusses, and engineered floor joists remained by others.
Location: Uxbridge, Ontario
Completion: June 2026
Sector: Residential

1. The Challenge
The garage required a Part 4 steel support system coordinated with the floor framing and loft storage identified on the plan.
Steel Support Coordination:
The steel beam and HSS columns had to work with the surrounding floor framing and specified bearing conditions.
Defined Scope Boundaries:
Foundation walls, footings, roof trusses, and engineered floor joists were outside the structural steel design scope.
2. The Engineering Solution
Parsways designed the steel beam, steel posts, and associated structural connections identified on the garage plan.
a) Steel Members:
The design established the steel beam and HSS column system and detailed how these members interface with the supporting construction.
b) Connection Details:
Structural details addressed beam bearing, column base plates, anchorage, and flush-beam connections in accordance with OBC 2024 and applicable CSA steel standards.
3. The Outcome
The completed design defined the Part 4 structural steel system required for the garage, providing coordinated beam, column, bearing, and connection requirements for the issued-for-permit design.
