Residential Structural Steel & Foundation Support Design - Markham
This residential project involved Part 4 structural design for identified steel framing, foundation support elements, and associated connections.
The structural scope was coordinated within the broader building design and prepared in accordance with OBC 2024 and applicable standards.

1. The Challenge
The residential design required defined structural support for selected Part 4 elements while maintaining clear boundaries with systems designed by others.
Structural Load Path:
Steel beams and HSS columns required coordinated support, bearing, and connection conditions throughout the identified structural areas.
Foundation Integration:
The steel framing interfaced with isolated pad footings, reinforced concrete elements, and foundation components provided under separate design scope.
Coordination Boundaries:
Roof trusses, engineered floor joists, architectural, mechanical, electrical, and other excluded systems required clear structural interface coordination.
2. The Engineering Solution
Parsways completed the identified Part 4 structural design, including steel framing, local foundation supports, anchorage, and associated structural details.
a) Steel Framing Design:
Beam and column schedules established structural members together with required bearing, base plate, cap plate, and support conditions.
b) Foundation Support Design:
Pad footings, local reinforcement, anchorage, bearing plates, and reinforced concrete support details were incorporated where identified.
c) Connection and Interface Details:
Detailed connections addressed beam-to-column, column-to-footing, beam pockets, steel-to-wall interfaces, flush beams, and ledger supports.
3. The Outcome
The identified Part 4 structural elements were defined for permit, with coordinated beam, column, footing, anchorage, and connection requirements aligned with OBC 2024 and applicable CSA standards.
