Roof-Supported Hoists & Structural Capacity Rating - Concord

Parsways performed a detailed structural assessment and capacity rating of roof-supported manual and electric hoists installed on OWSJs and primary beams within an active manufacturing facility.

The study verified load paths, analyzed concentrated hoist loads, and established Safe Working Load (SWL) limits compliant with OBC Part 4 and CSA S16 structural standards.

1 | Project Overview

Location: Jardin Dr, Concord, Ontario
Completion: 2025
Sector: Industrial / Manufacturing

Scope Highlights:

  • Structural analysis of OWSJs and primary beams under hoist loads

  • Connection and load path verification

  • SWL determination and operating restrictions

  • Field measurements and QA/QC documentation

2 | The Challenge

  • Concentrated point loads not anticipated in the original roof design

  • Preventing overstress or excessive deflection in OWSJs and main beams

  • Providing clear, code-compliant SWL ratings for safe operation

3 | Engineering Results

  • Conducted capacity checks for each hoist location

  • Verified member strength, load transfer, and non-simultaneous use requirements

  • Issued SWL postings and concise H&S documentation

  • Delivered an inspection-ready report with minimal disruption to operations
