Structural Design for Storage Building - Laird
This project involved structural engineering design for a storage building in Laird, Ontario, covering the foundation system and roof framing support.
The design addressed foundation reinforcement, frost protection, roof purlins, steel roof panel fastening, and lateral load transfer in accordance with Ontario requirements.
Location: Laird, Ontario
Completion: September 2026
Sector: Industrial

1. The Challenge
The project required a coordinated structural system for an unheated storage building, including foundation support and roof framing requirements.
Foundation and Frost Protection:
The foundation needed to provide stable bearing while incorporating reinforced concrete construction and insulation for frost protection.
Roof Framing and Stability:
The roof system required defined purlin, truss, steel panel, and connection requirements to transfer roof and lateral design loads.
2. The Engineering Solution
Parsways developed the structural foundation and roof framing design based on the specified building loads and site design assumptions.
a) Foundation Design:
A reinforced concrete footing and ICF foundation wall system was detailed together with prepared subgrade and structural insulation provisions.
b) Roof Framing Design:
Engineered roof trusses were coordinated with wood purlins, steel roof panels, and specified fastening connections forming the roof diaphragm system.
3. The Outcome
The completed structural design established a coordinated foundation and roof support system with defined reinforcement, frost protection, load transfer, and connection requirements for permit-stage construction.
