Timber Cabana Structural Framing - Whitchurch-Stouffville
Structural engineering design was completed for a timber cabana in Whitchurch-Stouffville, Ontario.
The scope included the foundation support system, exposed timber framing, roof framing, and associated structural connections.
Location: Whitchurch-Stouffville, Ontario
Completion: September 2026
Sector: Residential

1. The Challenge
The cabana required a coordinated structural system integrating timber roof framing, supporting posts, beams, and foundation supports.
Timber Framing:
The design incorporated exposed Douglas Fir framing, including beams, rafters, ridge members, king posts, knee bracing, and columns.
Foundation Support:
The structure required helical pile foundations designed to support the timber framing and specified structural reactions.
Design Conditions:
The structural design accounted for applicable dead, snow, rain, wind, seismic, and assumed soil-bearing conditions for the site.
2. The Engineering Solution
Parsways developed the structural framing and foundation design for the cabana in coordination with the architectural requirements.
a) Helical Pile Foundation:
A helical pile support system was designed with pile locations and structural requirements coordinated with the supporting timber posts.
b) Timber Roof Framing:
The roof structure was designed using specified timber beams, rafters, ridge members, posts, king posts, and knee bracing.
c) Code Coordination:
The structural design was prepared in accordance with OBC 2024 and applicable Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville requirements.
3. The Outcome
A coordinated structural system was established for the timber cabana, providing defined foundation support, timber framing, and roof load paths for permit-stage construction.
